616 - A Dog’s Birthday Wish

I'm feeling really upset that no one remembered to wish me a Happy Birthday.

It was Rob’s 28th birthday, but he wasn‘t feeling much like celebrating. His beloved dog Buddy, a loyal golden retriever who had been by his side for over a decade, had passed away the week before after a brief illness. Rob was heartbroken.

On the morning of his birthday, Rob woke up feeling empty inside. He went through his usual routine of making coffee and letting the dogs out, but this time there was only one dog – his other dog, a rescue mutt named Daisy. She sensed Rob’s sadness and nuzzled up to him, but it wasn’t the same without Buddy there.

Rob decided to take Daisy on a walk to the park where he and Buddy used to play fetch. As they approached the entrance, Rob was surprised to see a golden retriever sitting on a bench, wearing a birthday hat. As he got closer, he realized it was Buddy!

“Buddy! Is that really you?” Rob cried. The dog bounded over to him, tail wagging furiously. Rob hugged him tight, tears streaming down his face. “I miss you so much buddy. I wish you were still here with me.”

Suddenly, the dog transformed into a glowing orb of light. “Rob, I am here with you, in your heart,” a voice said. “I came to wish you a happy birthday and to tell you that I’m okay. I want you to be happy and to keep living your life to the fullest. I’ll always be your loyal companion, even if you can’t see me.”

The orb of light faded, and Daisy was back to her normal self, looking up at Rob with her big brown eyes. Rob smiled and gave her a good scratch behind the ears. “Come on Daisy, let’s go home and have a birthday picnic in the backyard. I think Buddy would like that.”

As Rob and Daisy walked home, Rob felt a sense of peace wash over him. He knew that Buddy would always be with him, in his heart and in his memories. And he was grateful for the time they had together, and for the unconditional love that only a dog can give.
