A mama dog and her eight 3-month-old puppies were sadly a.ban.doned in rural Louisiana.

Thankfully, a kind family found them and decided to keep the mom but asked a local rescue to find homes for the babies.

The rescue was full, so they contacted their partner Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, California for help.

The rescue immediately jumped into action and made arrangements to transport the litter of abandoned pups, along with 31 other puppies, to their center.

Upon arrival of the puppies, staff realized that one of the pups was different from the rest.

While the rest of the pups ran around the center and played like normal puppies would, one of them began showing signs of special needs. Staff then learned that this puppy, named Star, is deaf and nearly blind.

Another thing they noticed is that one of Star’s littermates, Denver, decided to look after Star as her own personal guide dog. Denver stays by Star’s side, helping her as she learns to use her other senses to maneuver her surroundings.

The two of them were rarely apart, and whenever they’re separated, Denver always comes running back to Star to let her know he was there.

Since the two of them are inseparable, and Star relies on Denver for help, the center is putting them up for adoption together.

Whomever adopts this adorable pair will receive training on how to care for a special needs dog. And of course Denver will be there to help his sister as well!

“It’s really extraordinary,” Helen Woodward Adoption Services Manager Dora Dahlke stated. “We never stop learning from animals. These two really can teach us all a thing or two about sibling love and how much we can achieve with the love of a good friend.”
