A tiny 1-week-old puppy is safe and back in the care of his mom after he accidentally fell under the deck of a home.

Texas firefighters received a call about a lost dog and “put their trench rescue skills to work” to save the baby dog in what turned out to be a dirty rescue.

The Mount Pleasant Fire Department shared photos of their rescue efforts on Facebook, which revealed the firefighters digging a big hole underneath a home’s deck so that one of them could squeeze under the home to reach the lost pup!

That task fell to Firefighter Stockinger who crawled into the trench and reached under the house to get the puppy. After getting “down in the dirt,” firefighter Stockinger emerged with the tiny puppy in hand.

“This morning we received a call for a lost puppy. Crews from Station 1 put their trench rescue skills to work and the 1 week old victim was successfully rescued and reunited with its mom. Great job A-shift, station 1!!” the Texas fire department wrote.

Thankfully, it’s reported that the puppy is uninjured and back with his family.
