Oscar is a two-year-old American Bulldog mix that was abandoned by his family while he was just a puppy. When he was taken in by Miami-Dade Animal Service shelter, he was in terrible condition.

He had a skin infection, heartworms, broken teeth, and wounds all over his body due to an inadequate collar. After being healed and nurtured at the shelter, he was ready to go to a new family, but nobody responded to posts about him.

Then, Humans And Animals United stepped in and found a foster for this puppy…

A Shelter Boy From The Very Puppyhood

Oscar was below one year of age when he was surrendered to a shelter. Miami-Dade Animal Service was everything he knew, as he had no other home. His frown face was his usual setup, as he didn’t smile or exhibit excitement at any level.

Even though the MDAS team provided care and lots of love for Oscar, he needed a real home.

He Was Severely Injured

When he first got in the shelter, he had terrible injuries and wounds. After careful examination, Oscar was diagnosed with heartworms, skin and ear infection, and had a lot of broken teeth. On top of all that, he had scars all over his body from fighting with other dogs.

The reason for his bad skin was an inadequate collar. It was embedded so tightly that it started an infection that took over the good part of his body.

Fortunately, the MDAS staff acted timely and subjected Oscar to veterinarian treatment. He was healing slowly, but eventually, he regained his strength. Several months after that, Oscar was ready to go to a new family.

The MDAS team posted about Oscar several times, but no one ever responded. The shelter reached its maximum capacity a year later, and they were forced to let Oscar go. But then, the other animal service stepped in…

Humans And Animals United (HAAU), from Florida, came to the rescue! In order to prevent Oscar from losing a roof over his head once again, Rosa Fond, the founder of this organization, did everything in her power to find Oscar a new home.

Even though they’re not boarding their dogs, they did manage to link Oscar to a new foster family. A dog trainer who was working closely with Humans And Animals United decided to foster Oscar until he found a permanent home.

Oscar Gets A Foster For The First Time

Despite being on a temporary basis, this was the first time for Oscar to get a family who truly understood and cared for him.

He was so happy to finally find a way into someone’s home, which resulted in Oscar smiling the whole time. Once a frowning boy, he became the happiest dog ever!

According to Fond, as soon as Oscar came into his new home, he started feeling better. He was no longer lethargic, but hyper, and that only shows how badly he needed someone.

Oscar’s foster made sure he got proper puppy education and went through the process of socialization.

He’s Waiting For A Forever Home

Oscar and his foster are going strong these days! He’s already managed to adopt basic obedience, and is now a good boy, ready for family life.

He’s still looking for a new family and a permanent home. Fond hopes the puppy finds someone who will understand what a great dog he is and help him heal his traumas from the past.

“He deserves a good home. Somebody who’s gonna give him a lot of love and help him heal through the trauma he’s been through. Someone who’s gonna give him a lot of love and time to understand that he’s safe.”

I really hope he finds his pawfect home in the end. No dog should ever be abandoned and go through what Oscar went through. Until he finds his forever home, he will keep perfecting his family skills with his foster, enjoying the best life.
