Sadie, a 13-year-old dog was overcome with grief after the sudden passing of her human dad, says her mom Julia Beaulieu. The dog was so distraught she stopped eating, but it wasn’t until she got to say a proper goodbye at the memorial service that she began to eat again.
Beaulieu explained to Global News that Sadie was adopted into the family when she was just 8 weeks old and was “daddy’s girl”.
Immediately after his passing, Sadie tried to wake her daddy up.
“Once they stopped working around him, she came and she laid with him and pushed at his hand almost as if to get him to pet her,” Beaulieu said.
Sadie began a vigil at a window, waiting to see his truck pull up the driveway. She also stopped eating for 10 days and lost 10 pounds. That’s why when it came time for her husband’s memorial service, Julia decided to bring Sadie along. She hoped that Sadie seeing inside the coffin would maybe give her some sense of closure.
“I let her stand up and look [in the casket] and she had almost a look of shock on her face,” she told the Canadian broadcaster. “She stood there…and was quite puzzled by it and then she just seemed to relax and just stood there with me.”
The CEO of the funeral company captured the moment on camera and Beaulieu said that the photo gives her comfort when she looks at it. She also shared that Sadie began eating again after the funeral, so it appears that Sadie did get a sense of closure after all.
